Fiscal Flowcast for Families & Parents
Fiscal Flowcast for Families & Parents
Managing household finances for a family means juggling multiple income streams, shared expenses, savings goals for children, and long-term plans like buying a home or funding education. Fiscal Flowcast brings it all together in one place.
Step 1 — Set up a household budget
Start by mapping your household income and regular expenses — mortgage or rent, utilities, groceries, childcare, and transport. A clear budget reveals where money is going and where you can redirect more toward goals.
- Connect all household accounts (joint checking, savings, credit cards) via Accounts → Link account.
- Review imported transactions and correct any mis-categorised items.
- Create a monthly budget under Budgets with categories that reflect your family's spending pattern.
See Budgets and Account management.
Step 2 — Plan for education and life milestones
Create a financial goal for each milestone — college fund, holiday, first car, home renovation. Link the goal to a dedicated savings account so deposits count toward your target automatically.
- Go to Goals and click New goal.
- Set a target amount and target date.
- Fiscal Flowcast calculates the monthly contribution needed to reach it on time.
See Financial goals.
Step 3 — Track shared expenses
Use transaction tracking and the Merchants tab to see where your household spends the most — groceries, childcare, dining, subscriptions. Spot shared expenses that can be trimmed and set budget limits for discretionary categories.
See Transaction tracking and Merchant spend by payee.
Step 4 — Manage property and loans
If your family owns a home, add it as a property to track its value alongside your mortgage liability — giving you a true net-worth picture. Use the loan module for mortgages, car loans, or any other debt to track amortisation and outstanding balances.
See Property tracking and Loan management.
Step 5 — Forecast cash flow around big expenses
Add school fees, annual insurance renewals, and holiday costs as recurring transactions so the forecast engine can show you months where cash will be stretched — giving you time to prepare rather than scramble.
See Financial forecasting and Recurring transactions.
Step 6 — Run reports to stay on track
Use the Reports section for monthly summaries and category breakdowns. Export data to review with a financial adviser or to prepare for tax season.
See Reports and Exporting your data.
Recommended plan
Families typically use Basic ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) for unlimited accounts, goals, and property tracking. See Plans and limits.
