Merchant spend by payee
Merchant spend by payee
Fiscal Flowcast groups expense transactions by payee so you can spot your biggest spending sources. For each transaction, the Merchant field is used when you set it (on expense and capital loss types); if Merchant is blank, we fall back to Description (bank/memo text).
Dashboard: Top merchants this month
- Open your Dashboard and select an entity if you have more than one.
- Find the Top merchants this month card — it lists up to five payees ranked by total spend in the current calendar month.
- Click View all to open the full Merchants view on Transactions.
Transactions: Merchants tab
- Go to Transactions from the menu.
- Select your entity and use the shared date range strip (This month, Last month, Last 3 months, or Custom).
- Switch to the Merchants tab (next to Transactions and Categories).
- Review StatCards (total spend, merchant count, top merchant share), the top-10 horizontal bar chart, and the table.
- Click a chart bar or table row to jump back to the Transactions list filtered to that payee (search is prefilled with the merchant/payee name).
Transactions: Categories tab
- On Transactions, open the Categories tab (or use Money → Transactions → Categories in the sidebar).
- Use the same date-range strip as Merchants.
- Review the donut and ranked list with percentages. Uncategorized appears as its own bucket when present.
- If everything is uncategorized, follow the CTA to categorize transactions so the breakdown becomes useful.
- Click a categorized row to filter the Transactions list to that category.
What counts as spend
Totals include Expense and Capital loss transaction types in the selected date range. Income and transfers are excluded from merchant rankings.

- Set Merchant to a clean payee name (e.g., "Starbucks") and keep Description as the bank text so future months group correctly.
- Combine with Categorizing transactions and budgets to act on trends.
