Creating and Managing Budgets
Creating and Managing Budgets
Budgets help you plan spending, spot trends, and stay on track. Fiscal Flowcast supports two ways to budget: budget with income split (we suggest lines from your allocation rule) and manual budget (you set each category yourself).
Two ways to budget
- Budget with income split (recommended): You set an amount, choose accounts, and pick or create an allocation rule. We suggest budget lines you can tweak.
- Manual budget: You add each category or account and set the amount yourself. No split rule—just you and your numbers.
Choose a method and set it up
Not sure how to split your money? See How to choose and set up your budgeting method for an overview and step-by-step guides for 50/30/20, zero-based, envelope, pay yourself first, 60% solution, values-based, manual, and calendar/cash flow.
Track actual vs. planned
Budgets automatically compare your transactions with your plan. Review the dashboard for overages and remaining balances.
Adjust as you go
- Reallocate budget amounts when priorities change
- Use notes to document why adjustments were made
- Review budgets monthly to keep them current
