Managing Your Accounts
Account Management Guide
Accounts are the foundation of your financial tracking in Fiscal Flowcast. This guide covers everything you need to know about managing accounts.
Account Types
Fiscal Flowcast supports several account types:
- Checking: Daily transaction accounts
- Savings: Savings accounts with interest
- Investment: Stocks, bonds, retirement accounts
- Credit Card: Credit card accounts
- Loan: Personal loans, auto loans, mortgages
- Asset: Other assets (vehicles, equipment, and more)
- Liability: Other liabilities
Adding an Account
- Navigate to Accounts from the sidebar
- Click "Add Account"
- Account name
- Account type
- Classification (Asset or Liability)
- Opening balance
- Institution (optional)
- Expected rate of return
- Compounding frequency
- Risk level
- Investment type
- Click "Save"
If dividends stay in the account, put total expected growth in the rate (price + yield). Cash dividends you take out should be Recurring Income on checking or savings — that cash is extra versus the growth rate. Reinvested dividends should not also be added as Income.
Currencies: entity base, accounts, and display
Each entity has a base currency (the main reporting currency for that entity) and may define supported currencies for accounts you add under it. Each account has its own currency; balances and posted transaction amounts are stored in that account's currency.
In Profile, your preferred currency controls how amounts are formatted in places that follow your personal display preference (alongside the entity base currency on entity-scoped views). A transaction may show an original amount in one currency and a posted amount in the account currency when the two differ—both are shown so you can see what hit the account versus the underlying charge.
Updating Account Balances
Keep your account balances up to date for accurate projections. You can update balances manually or through transactions.
Best Practices
- Update balances regularly (weekly or monthly)
- Set realistic expected rates of return for investments
- Link mortgages to properties for better tracking
- Use consistent naming conventions
