Start a Company Decision Wizard
Start a Company Decision Wizard
The Start a Company wizard (full-screen wizard or the Decisions hub) models startup spend, revenue ramp, peak cash need, and business runway before you open a separate business book. It is a planning tool — not legal, tax, or investment advice.
Plan tiers
- All plans: Explore startup cost schedule, peak cash need, business runway, and owner-draw impact without creating entities or recurring lines.
- Basic and above: Optionally create a business entity (within your plan entity limit), seed recurring revenue and expense lines, and open a dedicated business account.
- Premium and above: Save a named START_COMPANY forecast scenario.
What the wizard does
- Schedules one-time and recurring startup costs over your planning horizon
- Projects revenue ramp and monthly burn to compute business runway and break-even month
- Shows peak cash need beyond starting cash and optional owner-draw impact on runway
- Cash balance projection chart on the summary step
- Persist path creates entity + account + recurring lines prefixed for the startup plan
Import from your books (step 1)
On the first step, the Import from your books panel is always visible:
- Personal books: Import starting cash from your personal entity. This is funding context — it does not copy personal spending into business operating burn.
- Business books: Link an existing business entity to auto-import operating cash, monthly burn, and month-1 revenue from that book's accounts and recurring lines. Use Re-import from business books to refresh after you change the linked entity.
- If you have no business book yet, the panel shows an empty state — you can still explore the scenario and optionally create a business entity at the end of the wizard.
You can combine both imports on the same step: personal funding context plus linked business operating data. Imported fields show source hints under the inputs; override any value before advancing.
Explore-only vs save
Finish with Done — explore only to compare paths without writes. On Basic and above (and within your entity limit), opt in to Create business entity to materialize the plan in a separate book.
What is not modeled
- Corporate structure, payroll taxes, equity dilution, or fundraising rounds
- Payroll, COGS %, AR lag, or working-capital cycles as separate controls
- Personal runway — use the Quit Your Job wizard for that
