Quit Your Job Decision Wizard
The Quit Your Job wizard (full-screen wizard or the Decisions hub) estimates how long liquid savings cover your monthly burn during a career transition. It is a planning tool — not employment, legal, or tax advice.
Plan tiers
- All plans: Explore runway months, net monthly burn, depletion chart, and break-even with planned new income without writing to your books.
- Basic and above: Optionally save an emergency fund goal sized to your runway inputs and import an income delta to the Cash Flow What-If panel.
- Premium and above: Save a named QUIT_JOB forecast scenario.
What the wizard does
- Calculates runway from liquid savings, monthly burn, net severance, and optional side/partner income
- Adds COBRA / health-insurance cost to burn when you enter it
- Charts savings depletion over your runway horizon
- Models break-even when new income starts after the quit → start-date gap (surplus, depletion-before-income warning)
- Optional unemployment weeks, expense inflation applied to spending for the whole projection, and new-job income ramp
- Optional burn prefill from accounts and expense recurring lines
- One-click import of income adjustment to What-If on Cash Flow
Explore-only vs save
Finish with Done — explore only to leave your books unchanged. On Basic and above, opt in to Set emergency fund goal to persist a target aligned with your runway inputs.
What is not modeled
- Stock vesting cliffs, bonus clawbacks, or deferred compensation
- State unemployment eligibility or tax treatment of severance beyond a flat withholding %
- Non-liquid assets (home equity, retirement accounts with withdrawal penalties)
