Income Allocation Rules
Income Allocation Rules
Income allocation rules let you define how income is split across categories, accounts, or goals. Use them to automate savings, assign paychecks to buckets, or align income with your budget.
What Are Income Allocation Rules?
Rules define a source (e.g. an income category or account) and one or more targets with percentages or amounts. When income is recorded, you can apply a rule to split it according to your plan.
Create a Rule
- Go to Income Allocation from the sidebar
- Select the entity you want to create the rule for
- Click "Add Rule" or "New Rule"
- Name the rule and set the source (e.g. income category or account)
- Add targets: categories, accounts, or goals with a percentage or fixed amount
- Save the rule
Example Uses
- 50/30/20: Allocate 50% to needs, 30% to wants, 20% to savings
- Paycheck split: Send a portion of salary to savings and the rest to checking
- Goal funding: Route a percentage of income to a specific goal
Tips
- Ensure percentages add up to 100% (or amounts match the source) to avoid gaps
- Review rules when your income or priorities change
- Use clear names so you can tell rules apart when applying them to transactions
