Importing Financial Data
Importing Financial Data
Importing data saves time and reduces manual entry. Use Bring history for YNAB, Monarch, Mint, Copilot, QuickBooks, or a multi-account CSV. Use Import CSVfor one account. Bring history also takes several CSVs, or a YNAB Export Plan zip. CSV import is on Basic and above.
Prepare Your CSV
- Include columns for date, description, and amount (or separate debit/credit or outflow/inflow columns)
- Add an Account column to create or match several accounts in one file
- Use consistent date formats (for example, YYYY-MM-DD)
- Make sure amounts use a decimal point (for example, 1200.50)
- Large files are sent in batches. A big import can take a few minutes.
- A YNAB Export Plan zip creates categories from the plan file on Basic and above.
Upload and Map Columns
- Go to Transactions → Bring history (or Settings → Import from another app)
- Map your columns to date, description, amount (or debit/credit), and optional category
- Preview the import — validation shows errors before you commit
- Run the import; imported history defaults to Cleared status
Resolve Import Issues
- Fix missing categories or invalid date formats
- Remove duplicate rows before re-importing
- Split multi-currency files into separate imports
Post-Import Review
After importing, review account balances and budgets to ensure everything aligns with your expectations.
